With a ground clearance of 190mm, the i20 Active sits 20mm higher than the Elite i20. The SUV-inspired addenda do help the Active's appearance but it still doesn't look any more than a beefed-up hatchback. Zany colour themes in the interior and a few additional embellishments give some more personality to the familiar cabin. As with the Elite i20, the interior is well finished but rear seat space is just average by latest standards.
The Active's 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine is refined but also humdrum in terms of performance. It's really the punchy and free-revving 90hp, 1.4-litre diesel engine that is more in keeping with the Active's personality. What's also interesting is that the Active's suspension is a marginally better setup than the Elite's and makes the cross-hatchback feel a bit more sure-footed.
