The Avventura is attractive and unique among cross-hatchbacks for its off-roader-like position for the spare wheel. However, the arrangement is not ideal in terms of practicality, adding an unnecessary step to the process of opening the boot. A tilt meter and compass on the smart dashboard add some flavour to the Avventura’s cabin but the odd driving position and inconsistent quality remain bugbears. Space and comfort are good but not great.
The Avventura’s 93hp, 1.3-litre diesel engine is loud and feels sluggish at low speeds, and really comes into its element after 2500rpm. There’s only one petrol engine on offer and it’s no ordinary unit. The 142hp, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol is a cracker and it feels strong, punchy and happy to rev. You do have to be measured with the inputs, however, as the Avventura can’t put down the petrol engine’s power cleanly. Keen handling and an absorbent ride are common to all Avventuras and the good ground clearance comes handy on broken roads too.
