Relatively low slung and decidedly sporty, the BMW 3 Series still looks the business. It’s a different story on the inside. The cabin simply lacks the wow factor of newer rivals and quality levels are not at par with the best-in-class either. You sit quite low in a 3 Series, so while drivers will like the sporty seating position, rear seat ingress-egress isn’t the most convenient. Space and comfort, however, are very good.
The 3 Series’ 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel offers strong performance and feels exciting but it’s not the quietest of engines. Petrolheads will take well to the 330i – its 252hp, 2.0-litre petrol engine is pleasant in town and gets better and better the harder you wind it. The 3 Series is quick to turn in and feels agile but the India-spec cars, with their softened suspensions, are missing some BMW magic. On the plus side, ride comfort is good.
