The Audi A3 might lack the flash value of some rivals but its styling is neat and likeable. It’s a similar story on the inside as well; the cabin doesn’t have that wow factor but all of what you touch is high quality. The A3 works well for owner drivers but it’s not the ideal car for the chauffeur-driven – you can’t spread out in the back and headroom is limited too.
The Audi A3’s 150hp, 1.4-litre petrol engine features cylinder deactivation technology and the system works seamlessly. The engine is smooth and, aided by the quick shifting dual-clutch transmission, offers reasonable performance too. Diesel A3 buyers will like the 143hp, 2.0 diesel engine's performance too. The engine pulls eagerly but can get buzzy at times. Of the other things, the A3 is one of the best-handling Audis, and the ride quality is also largely free from the thuds and thumps we expect from European cars.
