The facelift and larger wheels have done much to enhance the Aspire’s look. The makeover on the inside is more comprehensive and the new dashboard that gives pride of place to the touchscreen infotainment system looks modern. There are some well-finished bits but on the whole, quality remains a mixed bag. The Aspire’s seats are comfy but the cabin is down on space to newer rivals.
The Aspire’s new 96hp, 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine isn’t quick off the line but feels pleasant when speeds build. The crisp manual gearbox works well too. Also new to the Aspire is a 123hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine that’s offered solely with a torque converter automatic transmission. It promises much by way of performance. The 100hp, 1.5-litre diesel motor carries on from before and remains likeable for its smooth build of power and economy, even if it isn’t the quietest of engines. As ever, ride and handling are the highlight on the Aspire. It’s easy to drive in town yet feels keen on twisty roads, while bump absorption is impressive.
