The Abarth Punto is a Fiat Punto dialed up to 11. It’s easily identifiable by its bespoke wheels and slick stickering, while the all-black theme and sporty detailing make it look the business on the inside too. Like all Puntos, the ergonomics are off, quality is a mixed bag and rear seat space isn’t the best but these are mere blemishes in what is a great driver’s car.
The Abarth’s 145hp, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine is strong, punchy and quick to rev to its 6,500rpm limiter. Everyday performance is also good. However, the Abarth really comes alive on a twisty road where the feelsome steering, grippy chassis and strong brakes allow you to make the most of the power. What should be mentioned is that the gearbox isn’t as slick as it should have been and the stock tyres can’t put the power down cleanly. But given how well the Abarth lends itself to upgrades and mods, you can easily alter the way it drives.
