The BMW X1 is smart and has an SUV silhouette, but tough and imposing it is not. On the inside, the X1 is typical BMW. The design conforms to the template but some of the plastics feel scratchy and aren’t up to the mark. Drivers will like the reasonable view out while those seated at the back will appreciate the space and comfort on offer. Even the X1’s boot is large.
The X1’s 192hp, 2.0-litre petrol offers brisk performance and is quite refined as well. The 190hp, 2.0 diesel, on the other hand, can sound a bit gravelly but makes up by offering strong performance. Ride comfort is another X1 strength. The suspension is soft and absorbs the rough stuff with ease. The X1 is also nice to steer by class standards. All-wheel drive that’s exclusive to the range-topping X1 adds some off-road capability to the package.
