While some might see it as a small BMW, purists will see the M2 Competition as a right-sized BMW. The BMW M2 Competition looks the business on the outside and is neatly done on the inside. Useable rear seats and reasonably-sized boot give it some practicality too. Do note, you’ll have to tick quite a few pricey options to bring the M2 Competition to spec.
The M2 Competition shares its 3.0-litre, twin-turbo, straight-six engine with the M3 and M4, and with 410hp on call, performance is plentiful. The M2 is fast and its dual-clutch transmission is quick-acting but a more urgent top-end would have made things nicer. We aren’t fans of the M2’s industrial sound track either. However, on a winding road, the M2 is incredible. It’s got every bit of the playfulness of a rear-wheel-drive BMW and the compact dimensions make it easy to exploit the power.
