Maruti launched the second-gen Swift more than three years ago, way back in August 2011. Since then, it has seen rivals like the Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto and Hyundai i20 either get a mid-cycle refresh or an all-new generation hitting the showrooms. To keep itself in the game, Maruti launched the refreshed Swift last month. The updated Swift Dzire is expected to follow suit soon.

Exteriors

Maruti has decided to play it safe with the Swift’s popular exterior styling. The updated Swift’s front bumper is all-new and now comes with a larger air dam. There are silver accents on the sides around the fog lamp housings, while the grille now sports honeycomb styling.

The updated Swift now also comes in a new Granite Grey shade (above).

Moving on to the sides, the alloy wheels in the top variants get an all-new design, while the lower variants also get restyled wheel caps. Maruti has added three new paint shades to the updated Swift line-up: violet, red and grey.

The Swift VDI (pictured above) does not get parking sensors or alloy wheels.

Feature / Equipment additions:

The new Swift LXi and LDi now come with adjustable headrests and a 60:40 split for the rear seats, along with new seat fabrics.

The Swift’s new LDi+ variant comes with all the equipment on offer in the base LDi trim and additionally gets front power windows and remote locking.

The new Swift VDi and VXi now come with a standard audio player (Below), electrically folding wing mirrors (Above) and ABS on the diesel version.

The top-spec trims of the new Maruti Swift get additions such as remote locking with a push-button start, Bluetooth for the audio player (Below) as well as rear parking sensors.

The seat fabric for the top variants is also different from the ones on offer on the lower trims.

The updated Maruti Swift ZXi and ZDi get keyless entry and go. (above).

Engine line-up:

The refreshed Swift also gets tweaks to its petrol engine (above) in pursuit of better fuel efficiency. Its 1.2-litre petrol motor is now marginally less powerful (83.1bhp instead of 85.8bhp) but delivers a good 9.7 percent increase in fuel efficiency (20.4kpl instead of 18.6 kpl). The updated Swift diesel continues with the same power output but gets a significant 10 percent better fuel efficiency thanks to a tweaked ECU and reduced friction.
