The special edition of Volkswagen’s compact sedan is expected to launch by January, 2018.

Spy shots of a new Volkswagen Ameo Special Edition, being tested near Pune, have surfaced online. Based on the cosmetic changes on the outside, it seems like this is the Ameo Sport – a version similar to the Polo GT Sport that had launched in April this year.

In terms of styling, the Ameo Sport comes with decals on the bottom of the doors, a black boot-lip spoiler, black touches on the boot and a blacked-out roof. The standard alloy wheels have been replaced with new ones, topped with a black finish. It also swaps the standard rims for black alloy wheels. The styling bits – from the decals to the black finish – seem similar to those on the Crest Editions that had launched back in December, 2016. The cabin is expected to sport black leather seats, as well, to match.

Considering the lack of TDI badges at the rear in the spy shots, the compact sedans spotted here are powered by the 75hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 110Nm of torque and comes with a five-speed manual transmission. Volkswagen will also offer the special edition with the 110hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 250Nm of torque and comes mated to either a five-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Volkswagen has introduced the special edition Ameo in a bid to keep up with sales of compact sedans such as the Maruti’s Dzire, Hyundai’s Xcent and the Ford Aspire.
