UPDATE: Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT launched at Rs 8.54 lakh

Maruti Suzuki is readying a mild update for its blockbuster compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza. Due for launch soon, the Vitara Brezza is likely to get certain safety features on all trims, along with new paint options.

Maruti is likely to discontinue the LDI (O) and VDI (O) variants, as safety features like ABS and dual airbags – which were only offered on the (O) trim – will now be standard across the range.

Additionally, on top-spec trims, Maruti may add new exterior paint combinations and black alloy wheels. A dark orange shade has been sighted and will be joining the line-up; it will replace the blue colour option.

This update is likely to be cosmetic-only, which means the Vitara Brezza will soldier on with the tried-and-tested 90hp, 1.3-litre diesel engine, mated to a five-speed manual.

The addition of safety features on all variants brings the Vitara Brezza on par with its direct rivals – the Tata Nexon and the Ford EcoSport. This, along with the new colour options, means Maruti can field a fresher product in the booming compact SUV segment.

Tata recently added an AMT gearbox to the Nexon line-up while Ford offers the EcoSport with a torque converter option for the petrol engine. Ford will also re-introduce the EcoBoost engine on the EcoSport in the coming days. The Vitara Brezza, however, does not come with an automatic gearbox or a petrol engine option. There is no news of Maruti offering these options on the Vitara Brezza anytime soon, but this update is expected to arrive in the coming days.
