Skoda has seen high demand for the Octavia RS with the units allocated for India having sold out completely. The Octavia RS was launched in India on September 1, 2017, at Rs 24.62 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The company had an initial allocation of 300 cars for our market, all of which were sold out relatively quickly. Additionally, 200 cars were imported in a second lot due to high demand for the model, which have now sold out as well. Skoda India has sold all 500 models and has no more allocations for this year. Dealers have been instructed by the company to not accept bookings for the sedan, however, there are chances that Skoda might re-introduce the car to our market in the near future.
The Octavia RS is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol motor that develops 230hp at 6,200rpm and 350Nm of torque between 1,500rpm and 4,600rpm. The engine sends power to the front wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Czech manufacturer claims a 0-100kph time of 6.8sec and an electronically-limited 250kph top speed.
Although the RS is based on the standard Octavia, it features an updated suspension setup, larger 17-inch alloys and a body kit which gives the RS a far more aggressive stance. The exteriors also come with blacked-out trim bits, LED headlamps, tail-lamps, fog lamps and daytime running lights (DRLs), steel exhaust tips and a boot spoiler.
In terms of equipment, it gets a flat-bottom RS steering wheel with paddleshifters, a pair of super supportive leather and Alcantara sport seats contrast-stitched in red, a touchscreen infotainment system, nine airbags, ESP and a park-assist system. The Skoda Octavia RS doesn’t have any direct competitors in the country, though the standard Octavia rivals the likes of the Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis.
In other news, Skoda is also expected to introduce the Superb Sportline, a new variant for its range-topping sedan and rival to the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, soon.
