Updated Renault Kwid gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible infotainment system and other safety equipment; top-spec priced at Rs 4.63 lakh.

Renault has updated its Kwid hatchback for India, and interestingly, priced it at the same Rs 2.66 lakh as the outgoing model (top-spec 1.0 Climber AMT costs the same Rs 4.63 lakh). The 2019 Kwid features an enhanced infotainment system and additional safety kit as part of the update.  According to dealer sources, Renault is expected to increase prices by about Rs 10,000-15,000, depending on the variant, after March 2019.

While the infotainment system remains a 7.0-inch touchscreen unit, it’s been upgraded with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, making the Kwid the most affordable car with the feature. Additionally, the infotainment system now supports video playback via USB and gets a push-to-talk (voice recognition) feature too. Renault says that the USB charger now gets a fast charging function as a part of the update as well.

The safety suite has been updated as well. In line with upcoming safety requirements, the 2019 Renault Kwid gets a driver’s airbag, ABS with EBD, a driver and passenger seatbelt reminder and a speed alert system as standard across all variants. The safety requirements will become mandatory for all cars manufactured in India from April 1, 2019.

Mechanically, the Kwid remains unchanged. On offer are 54hp, 0.8-litre and 68hp, 1.0-litre petrol engine options. Both engines come mated to 5-speed manual gearboxes as standard, while the 1.0-litre also gets the option of a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

The Renault Kwid’s primary rivals – the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Datsun Redigo – are also scheduled for big changes this year. While the Redigo will get a comprehensive update, Maruti will launch the all-new Alto by October 2019.
