Tata Motors’ souped-up Tiago hatchback, the Tiago JTP, was spotted testing ahead of its scheduled launch later during this festive season. The car has undergone several cosmetic and mechanical changes to set it apart from the regular Tiago. The JTP has been developed by Tata Motors in partnership with Coimbatore’s Jayem Auto, which explains the ‘JTP’ suffix.

The car seen in the spy shots is finished in a shade of bright red and features many blacked-out elements. At the rear, there’s a dual-tone bumper with a faux-diffuser that houses a rear fog lamp and twin exhaust tips. Meanwhile, the roof and the rear spoiler are finished in gloss black. There’s also blacked out B-pillars and air vents with ‘JTP’ branding on the front fenders. The hatchback also sports dual-tone alloy wheels, side skirts and black ORVMs with integrated turn signals. The front bumper is reworked as well with a larger air dam and fog lamp housing. There are smoked projector headlights and the front grille is finished in gloss black and features the ‘JTP’ logo.

Inside, the Tiago JTP will feature all-black interiors with red accents around the air-con vents and contrasting red stitching on the seats and the steering wheel. The car also features sporty aluminium pedals. Tata is also likely to give the Tiago JTP the same 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system as seen on the Tiago NRG, which will be paired to an eight-speaker sound system from Harman.   

The Tiago JTP will be powered by the Nexon’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, with enhancements to the intake and exhaust systems for improved performance. In the Nexon, the engine’s power and torque figures of 110hp and 150Nm are significantly higher than the standard Tiago petrol (85hp, 114Nm), and while the gearbox will remain a five-speed unit, the ratios will be optimised for better acceleration. Lowered springs and larger 15-inch rims are also part of the transformation and promise to give the JTPs keener handling. 

Following these upgrades, the Tiago JTP is expected to be priced about Rs 1 lakh more than the top-spec Tiago petrol, which means it'll cost an estimated Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale close to Diwali.
