Porsche’s baby SUV gets revised styling and new tech; will feature a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine.

The facelifted Porsche Macan was globally unveiled at the 2018 Paris motor show and is set to be launched in India in February next year. The SUV features revised styling, an upgraded engine and new technology.

On the outside, the Macan now gets the Panamera-esque three-dimensional LED light panel on the rear of the vehicle. At the front, there is an updated bumper and new LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) as an optional extra, which features the signature Porsche four-point daytime running lights.

There are new exterior colours on offer – Mamba Green Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, Miami Blue and Crayon and wheel sizes range from the standard 18 inches to optional 21 inches.

Inside the Macan, there is the addition of a new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with a 10.9-inch, full-HD touchscreen infotainment system. Customers can also opt for the optional GT sports steering wheel that comes with a 'Sport Response button' that is borrowed from the 911 range.

The new Macan will come with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which produces 252hp and has a maximum torque figure of 370Nm. When combined with its 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox and four-wheel drive system, the SUV can go from 0 to 100kph in 6.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 225kph.

The Macan S is likely to be introduced later and will receive a new 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 with the same 340hp power figure seen in today’s 3.6-litre turbocharged V6 Macan S. Porsche has also overhauled the chassis to increase comfort levels as well as the driving dynamics of the Macan.

Like its larger sibling, the Cayenne that is scheduled to launch on October 17, Porsche is not expected to offer a diesel engine on the Macan facelift.

The Porsche Macan takes on the Jaguar F-Pace and the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe in our market. The pre-facelift Macan in India retails from Rs 80.38 lakh to Rs 1.52 crore (ex-showroom, India) and comes in two variants – the 252hp, Macan petrol and the range-topping 440hp, Macan Turbo.
