2018 version of the sedan shares design cues with larger S90 sibling; Merc C-class rival to feature petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains.

Images of the next-gen Volvo S60, showcasing its exterior design, particularly the rear and side, have been leaked online. Early this month, Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson revealed an image of the camouflaged sedan undergoing testing in Norway.

Design cues like the tail-lamps, rear bumper styling, and the doors are shared with its larger sibling, the S90 sedan. The new S60, however, looks more dynamic thanks to the rising beltline that stretches from the front wheel arches to the boot. Expect the front design to mirror that of the V60.

The next-gen S60 is based on Volvo’s SPA platform, which also underpins the recently revealed V60 estate; this means the new sedan should have a similar wheelbase length of 2,872mm. The interiors of the estate and sedan are expected to be identical as well.

Engine options for international markets are expected to include 2.0-litre T5 and T6 petrol motors, and 2.0-litre D3 and D4 diesel engines. The T6 twin-charged engine and T8 plug-in hybrid unit will also be on offer.

Expected to arrive globally mid-2018, the new S60 will rival the likes of the Mercedes C-class, BMW 3-series, Audi A4 and the Jaguar XE.
