Hyundai’s Dzire rival to get more cabin room; will share underpinnings with new Grand i10 but have its own identity.

Hyundai has started work on the second-gen Xcent compact sedan. Its launch, however, is still some time away and is expected to be sometime early 2020. The Xcent is Hyundai’s made-for-India sedan that adheres to the country-specific sub-four-metre compact sedan category to facilitate additional excise duty benefits.

This time around, the Dzire rival will maintain its compact sedan length but is expected to grow in width. Hyundai will also direct more focus to the cabin with additional head-, leg- and shoulder room, especially for rear-seat passengers. As expected, the new Xcent will share its underpinnings with its hatchback sibling, the next-gen Grand i10 (codename AI3), which is undergoing road-tests in India.

As far as styling goes, expect the next-gen Xcent to look bigger and sport an identity that'll be different from that of the Grand i10. The car could also get longer rear doors and proper sedan-like proportions.  Features could include AC vents, a 12V socket along with USB charging ports at the back, and even a sunroof.

Like the next-gen Grand i10, the new Xcent will also carry over the same set of engines but expect a Hyundai Smart Auto AMT instead of a torque converter unit.
