Hyundai dealers have registered this number of bookings for the new budget hatchback in just 13 days.

The bookings for the all-new Hyundai Santro had opened on October 10, and so far Hyundai has already received 23,500 in the last 13 days. Hyundai says this has already accounted for the first three months of their production run.

The new Santro has officially launched today at a starting price of Rs 3.89 lakh, though the buzz around this car has been building up for quite some time now. The original Santro was very well received in India, so much so that when its production stopped in 2015, it was met with some criticism from its fan base. Based on the number of bookings and the waiting period, it seems like market response to the new model has been quite positive.

The new Santro is offered in five trims which are the D-Lite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta with the inclusion of CNG for two variants (the Magna and Sportz). All trims will be powered by a 1.1-litre, four-cylinder engine that produces 69hp and 99Nm in the petrol variant and 59hp and 84Nm in the CNG variant. The petrol variants will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as a 5-speed AMT gearbox (the latter are only available in Magna and Sportz trims). The CNG variants will only be offered with the 5-speed manual gearbox.

The main rivals to the new Hyundai Santro will be the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Datsun Go and Tata Tiago.
