Updated S-class goes on sale in India in early 2018; likely to be offered with new straight-six diesel engine.

Mercedes-Benz has started testing the updated S-class in India, ahead of its launch in early 2018. The facelifted S-class was spotted on the Mumbai-Pune expressway with test apparatus at the rear, which suggests that emission testing is underway.

Mercedes will launch the updated S-class in India with its new 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine that will take the place of the older 3.0 V6 on 350d-badge models. The current model’s 3.0-litre petrol V6 will also be offered in due time but possibly with more power.

The 2018 S-class will be a minor facelift with no changes in the overall shape. New headlamps, new tail-lamps and redesigned front and rear bumpers lead the list of changes on the outside.

On the inside too, the revamped S-class gets tweaks, here and there. There is a new 12.3-inch high definition screen and Mercedes is also offering wood and leather options for interior trim and seats, respectively. Additionally, the upcoming S-class will also get a new seat fragrance function along with ventilated seats.

Mercedes will roll-out the facelifts of all three body-types of the S-class - Sedan, Coupe and Convertible, and new AMG versions should also be India-bound. Mercedes will continue to assemble the new S-class in India including the V8 powered long-wheelbase Maybach version.
