Company rejigs variant line-up; axes the less powerful 84hp TUV300.

Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced the 100hp mHawk100 engine across the TUV300 line-up. Prior to this, the 100hp variant was limited to the T8 and T10 variants only. The less powerful 84hp engine has been axed from the line-up as are the T4, T6, and T6 AMT variants. The line-up now comprises the T4+, T6+, T8, T8 AMT, T10 and T10 AMT.  Prices for the new 100hp versions are Rs 8.02 lakh for the T4+, and Rs 8.59 lakh for the T6+ (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The TUV was launched in September 2015 with an 84hp mHawk80 engine, and subsequently, in May 2016, Mahindra introduced a more powerful 100hp mHawk100 engine with a power and torque output of 100hp and 240Nm, up from the standard TUV300's 84hp and 230Nm. The two engines are essentially the same (1,498cc, three cylinders), with changes in the calibration to allow the different power outputs.

The 84hp version of the TUV300 was among the slowest cars we tested in recent times – in the manual guise, 0-100kph takes 19.52s – and it’s likely that the customer demand for this version simply diminished. This move to offer the 100hp engine on the lower variants should help the TUV300 attract more buyers.
