Cosmetic and feature upgrades aside, the updated TUV300 will get a reworked structure to meet upcoming crash test norms.

Mahindra has begun work on a mid-cycle update for its TUV300 compact SUV. The updated TUV300 will get a mild visual refresh and more features, but the bigger changes will be under the skin.

According to PTI, the TUV300 will get modifications to the body structure to comply with India’s new crash test norms that become applicable to all cars on sale in October 2019. Additionally, Mahindra has also begun work on a BS-VI-compliant engine for the SUV in preparation for the new emission norms that come into effect on April 1, 2020.

The TUV300 is currently powered by a 100hp, 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine that is mated to a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. The model has been a steady, if not huge, seller for Mahindra with decent average sales in the past six months.

With the facelift, Mahindra aims to attract more buyers for its rugged compact SUV. Expect the recently-launched TUV300 Plus SUV to get similar modifications to its structure along with a BS-VI engine in the future.

Mahindra is currently readying two all-new product launches this fiscal year, which include the flagship Y400 SUV and the feature-laden S201 compact SUV. It is also in the process of introducing a diesel-AMT variant for the KUV100 in the coming months.
