JLR's in-house-developed 2.0-litre engine makes 240hp and 340Nm of torque; powertrain claimed to be high-tech, more efficient.

Jaguar Land Rover has introduced its latest generation of Ingenium petrol engine in the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque in India. The technologically advanced powertrain is offered in the SE and HSE trim of the Discovery Sport priced at Rs 49.20 lakh and Rs 52.70 lakh, respectively. For the Range Rover Evoque, the Ingenium petrol is offered in SE and HSE Dynamic trim priced at Rs 51.06 lakh and Rs 60.73 lakh, respectively.

The new all-aluminium 2.0 Ingenium motor is said to consume 15 percent less fuel compared to the older 2.0-litre unit, and is offered in 200hp (single-scroll turbo), 250hp and 300hp (twin-scroll turbo) forms. However, it makes slightly less power and torque of 240hp and 340Nm in the Evoque and Discovery Sport since the engines are mounted transversely.

The Ingenium petrol made its India debut in the Velar (in 250hp guise, since engine is longitudinal mounted) and was introduced later in the Evoque convertible, XE and the XF. Developed grounds up by JLR in a departure from dependence on engines from Ford, the powertrains use a range of technologies such as an electro-hydraulic valvetrain, integrated exhaust manifold and a twin-scroll turbocharger.
