Performance-spec SUV to be part of Hyundai’s N division; will join the i30 N internationally; Kona SUV performance version also under consideration.

Hyundai is currently working on a performance version of its Tucson SUV, which will be badged as an N division model.

The Hyundai Tucson N will join the i30 N hatchback, which was launched in international markets recently, and be a part of the Korean manufacturer’s bid to take on more premium European brands in their own market. Demand for performance SUVs seems to be on the rise and Hyundai is looking to cash in on this phenomenon.

The brand has not announced a timeline for when the Tucson N will arrive and has not revealed any details about the powertrain or any of the performance-based modifications that the Tucson N is expected to sport.

The Korean manufacturer’s Kona SUV is also under consideration to join the other N division models. While it is unlikely that either N-badged SUV will come to India, Hyundai has recently launched a 4WD version of the Tucson in the market. The all-electric Kona is also expected to arrive on our shores late in 2018.

The Tucson along with the Eon, Grand i10, i20, i20 Active, Xcent, Verna, Elantra and Creta are the models that Hyundai currently sells in India, after having discontinued the Santa Fe SUV and i10 hatchback.
